Welcome to the Simpl Joomla Extensions home page. Simpl extension are designed to be lightweight extensions providing useful functionality in a way that's intuitive and flexible, while not being overly complicated.
Here you will find live demonstrations, information and resources for all Simpl extensions.
Simpl, which stands for "Simple Plugins," is a personal Joomla! Extensions project created and managed solely by Brian Coale. The goal is to create extensions that serve a useful purpose and solve problems commonly experienced by Joomla! web designers while having a minimal impact on the performance of the CMS itself.
A Creative Director / Marketing Manager for Casey Printing by day with over 12 years experience in Graphic Communications and Web Design, I often enjoy solving problems with PHP in my spare time as sort of a hobby. While designing websites using Joomla! I became acutely aware that many of the extensions available in the Joomla! Extension Directory were horribly bloated and tended to have a significantly negative impact on the websites on which they were installed. Worse yet, much of this bloating was in the form of encrypted Java libraries designed to help developers intentionally handicap their extensions so that they can offer 'Pro' versions for a price (what is known as an 'anti-feature').
While I'm certainly not opposed to developers getiing paid for their hard work, it occured to me that many of the problems I would turn to the JED for time and again, only to be frustrated by limited functionalty, clunky design, high prices and vacant support, could be solved with a little time and effort of my own. Also, I could design these simple extensions without any bloat, anti-features, bad design or cost, and I could support myself!
To take it a step further, I decided to share some of what I've accomplished with the community at large, so that I might contribute in some small way to a community of professionals like myself, and perhaps make someone's day. Also, It seemed a good way to share what I've learned with others who are trying to learn for themselves.
I can not promise that I will never make an extension that I might decide to charge for, but I have no plans on doing that any time soon. If I do, it would not be something I already offer for free, and it would definitely be something good.
